I got an email from AquariousMoon today about a seller on the website Taobao (which I'd never heard of til today) that is using images of my customs for some sort of sale.  This person does not own these customs, one is of actually of AquariousMoon's persona pony and she still has it in her collection.  Even with an online translator I can't make heads or tails of the site and do not wish to register for a site that I can not understand.  If anyone is a member of Taobao can you PLEASE report this seller!  The person has no permission from me to use my photos for their own use.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Here is a link:

That is some straight bs, I hope you get it sorted out. Super disrespectful, and didn't even bother to hide your signature. :steaming:

I tried but even I couldn't make out the reporting system. My friend Stensel is married to a man from China so I'll see if I can get him to help out with it, as soon as I possibly can. I hope this gets straightened out. That sucks!

Taobao is a chinese sales site that (as far as I know) only worcks and distributes in China.
The taobao system is generally quite safe, I havent used it much (I live in Shanghai) but people that have used it more often have found little or no reason to complain. Either the seller wont actually get anything from the sales or ha actually attempted to recreate your custom work. If the latter case is true (I highly doubt it) then best of luck getting that fixed. Major companies have had issues with unwinnable copyright cases in China... :/

This is definitely what I've heard about Taobao.  But I don't know about how easy it would be to have them remove the product,- since well. Some of them legitimately own the machines that were made to produce original my little pony products.  Yes, that "Made in China" mark on the bottom, means after they retire that machine some people acquire those machines and continue making products.  So sometimes they aren't even "Cheap nock offs" they're actual product that is just not being produced by original manufacture (Or even more true, sometimes is...)  All they need is to get a hold of one original or even just a cast of an original and reprint them.  They're practically identical- or are depending on the recaster.  Sadly even from a legal stand point here in the US, if they're the original caster, you have less right to alter and sell their product as they have to sell their original product with the license attached and make it look just like your 'alterations.'

even if nothing can really be done, at least me plastering it all over the pony sites and here will let people know that I have nothing to do with Taobao.

There are Chinese websites that operate by stealing images from etsy and selling cheap knock-offs of the products (assuming they actually sell ANYthing rather than just disappear with the money.) I have seen etsy sellers going round and round trying to get their product images off these sites (complete with watermarks, signatures, text with web addresses, links, etc - NO attempt is made to hide the theft) and if the site owner ever IS located and dealt with they simply change text or dump one photo and steal another. Unfortunately the language barrier plus the differing laws applying to intellectual theft and copyrights mean it is really difficult to resolve the situation.

Here's some of the discussions on the topic where you might find ideas about what you can do. It's been a long time since I've read there but maybe somebody's had a recent solution. [link]

Good luck.

They do sell and Ive bought things from them. xD Secondhand skullcandy headphones, that are original. Ive compared them to the ones I had bought earlier from media market and they were identical in appearence and sound quality.
Though problems like that are truly impossible to solve here in China. Personally, I wouldnt get too worked up over it. Usually if a sale doesnt fall through with taobao the mony is returned. YES. That does happen. The sellers might not be banned (which they should be) but it seems like they cant draw a profit too easily either...

there is a "Contact Us" link all the way at the bottom, in the last line, third from the end before it says the website name. I can't click on it myself, as it isn't a clickable link on my screen, but my internet is weird like that, and won't let me click on non-english links (the link itself has japanese characters, not english, so my computer freaks out sometimes.) It might work for you, although I don't know what will happen after you click on it. It might just be an email, or more japanese on a new page. If it is more japanese, try selecting as much as you can and using google translate to see what it says! It is the one with these characters: 联系我们 (it lets me select them, but not click, weird...)

Maybe this is helpful?

I'm pretty sure those are Chinese characters, not Japanese. On my side, I got a number to contact the owner, a whole bunch of phone numbers to call, and this "Online Cloud Service" thing. I don't know what a "cloud" is (besides the mainly white (sometimes grey/black) floaty things in the sky), so I'm not going to click on it.

isn't the "cloud" that new online storage thing that people were talking about? I don't know, I could be wrong. And as for the characters, you could be right, I just saw the yen sign, and since I don't know either language enough to read it, I assumed it was japanese. And since Japan borrowed some characters anyway, at a glance I couldn't tell.

It's alright, I can barely tell the difference. Google automatic translator told me it was "Chinese (Simplified Han)", so...

"Cloud" refers to an online storage system. So you can upload and store documents, photos, etc.. I do have to laugh that there is a "copyright" link next to that "contact" link though.

Ah, so that's what a "cloud" is.
Google automatic translator isn't that good, I think it was something else entirely from the automatic translation xD
